Mumbai: The Maharashtra Women’s Commission has directed the Solapur police to investigate and take action into reports of a Mumbai man marrying twin sisters in his hometown, which sparked a huge commotion here on Monday.
MSCW Chairman Rupali Chakankar has asked the Solapur Police Chief to investigate, take illegal action against the marriage under Section 494 of the IPC and report it to MSCW on a priority basis.
In a strange “background”, letters from the women’s group, a Mumbai man – Atul U. Avtade – is married to two identical twin sisters, Rinky M. Padgaonkar and Pinky M. Padgaonkar, both 36 Year-old engineer, lives with a private IT company in Mumbai, West Kandivalli.
Video of the wedding in Akluj went viral on social media as 300 guests cheered the “newlywed trio” on December 2.
The latest unconfirmed reports suggest that Avtade is already a married man whose first wife objected to her husband’s new “dual relationship” with the tech twins, though police have yet to comment on the developments.
The nuptials have sparked mixed reactions on social media, including heartache from many and lamentations from some lamenting that they couldn’t even marry a single girl and the man married two at the same time!
Finally, local resident Rahul B. Phule contacted the local police, who filed a non-identifiable criminal information report on December 3, but advised him to contact the appropriate court.
Locals claimed that Avtade married first, performed the ceremony with Rinky and then replayed the action with Pinky — all in the same marquee at a private hotel — which complainant Phule found offensive and illegal.
Initial police investigations indicated that the wedding was allegedly held with the consent of the groom and the family of the “twin bride”, despite subsequent protests at the ceremony.
Avtade, who runs a tour company in Mumbai, chose to hold his wedding in his hometown of Akluj to the twin sisters, who are said to have been “inseparable since birth” and could not bear to part.
The Rinky-Pinky twins grew up loving, like and dislike, cry or laugh, go anywhere together, eat off one plate but feed each other, go to the same university, complete the same engineering classes, and join a group that agrees to hire The company of the two of them.
Legal experts pointed out that the “two-in-one” wedding failed the legality test for various reasons. After a detailed investigation, Atul, Linky and Pingji may all be convicted of various crimes.
