Quality healthcare for pregnant women in Telangana attracts attention in neighboring countries
Hyderabad: The quality healthcare provided to pregnant women in Telangana has attracted attention in neighboring countries. A total of 8,300 pregnant women from neighboring countries have given birth in government hospitals in Telangana in the past six months, Health Minister T Harish Rao said on Sunday.
Participating in the ‘Hug Mama Mama’ event organized by Senior Obstetrician Dr K Shilpi Reddy, he said people from the border regions of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka A large number of pregnant women prefer the facilities of Telangana government hospitals.
Harish Rao also urged private hospitals to contribute to reducing unnecessary C-sections, adding: “Currently, 44 per cent of C-sections are performed in government hospitals while the rest are performed in private healthcare facilities. Avoiding unnecessary C-sections is a collective responsibility , I hope private hospitals can also contribute to this cause.”
The state government is working to provide comprehensive healthcare facilities for pregnant women in government hospitals. “To ensure a safe and regular delivery, we are also planning to provide mental health facilities, yoga classes, AYUSH preventive care and midwifery services to pregnant women in government hospitals. All these services will be available in due course,” he said.
