The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 211.76 points to 61,768.96 in early trade. The broader NSE Nifty fell 57.95 points to 18,351.70.
Mumbai: The benchmark index turned bearish on Thursday, in line with weaker global market trends.

In the Sensex, Titan, Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies, Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti were the main laggards in early deals.
Larsen & Toubro, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Power Grid and Hindustan Unilever were all winners.
Elsewhere in Asia, markets in Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong traded lower.
Wall Street closed in negative territory on Wednesday.
“Markets are likely to struggle in early trade on Thursday, tracking weakness in Asian indexes after U.S. indicators faltered in overnight trade,” said Prashanth Tapse, research analyst and senior vice president (research) at Mehta Equities Ltd.
The BSE benchmark index closed up 107.73 points or 0.17 percent at 61,980.72 – its record high – on Wednesday. The Nifty index edged up 6.25 points or 0.03 percent to 18,409.65.
Brent crude, the international oil benchmark, fell 1% to $91.90 a barrel.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 3,860.6 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data.
