Hyderabad: Several Iron Age monuments have been found at Varadarajapuram in Siddipet and Kesavaram Thanda in Medchal district, commonly referred to as megalithic tombs dating from 1000 BC (3,000 years old).
Archaeologist E Sivanagi Reddy examines near-extinct Iron Age burials at Varadarajapuram, Markook mandal, Siddipet district, and Kesavaram Thanda suburb, Muduchintalapalli mandal, Medchal district, after learning about members of Kotha Telangana Charitra Brundam, including A. Karunakar ,Medical PhD. Nasaruddin and K Gopal.
Upon inspection, the archaeologist said that until a few years ago, there were quite a few round megalithic tombs made of boulders in Varadarajapuram, with huge stones planted in front of them. They are called Menhirs. Unfortunately, only one has been noticed right now, and it’s in a bad position on the ground.
Similarly, at another Iron Age site in Kesavaram Thanda, Mechar district, the funerary monuments scattered on both sides of the road are disappearing due to the execution of different works. He explained that this was erasing the original historical evidence of the place.
At both sites, Sivanagi Reddy educates local farmers about the agricultural lands noted by these monuments, understands their archaeological significance, and calls for their protection for future generations.
