San Francisco: Microsoft introduced real-time speech translation in Skype, which can now use artificial intelligence (AI) to translate a person’s voice in real time, making the translated voice sound similar to the speaker’s original words.
“We’re rolling out real-time translation for Skype-to-Skype video calls, using your natural voice. This means you can have a conversation with someone who speaks a different language, and the translation will happen automatically and in real-time as the conversation goes on,” Microsoft said in a statement. Said in a blog post.
In the coming months, group video calls and phone calls will feature real-time translation of natural speech, the blog post said.
The new translation feature uses AI to automatically detect the language spoken in a video call and translate in real time.
To do this, speech recognition technology and natural language processing combine to understand, interpret and translate spoken language.
Additionally, if users activate their natural voice, the company says they’ll use AI to sample their words and adjust the translation to sound like them, making conversations more human, according to a blog post.
This is a huge step forward for Skype as it enables people who speak different languages to communicate with each other easily,” the company said.
