Mancherial: The midnight fire in Venkatapur showed how extramarital affairs can destroy families and even lead to gruesome murders. In a disturbing trend, murders caused by illegal affairs are on the rise in the area.
Such incidents are said to have resulted in 17 murders out of 26 homicides reported in the region in 2022, suggesting a 65 per cent share of crime. According to the Regional Criminal Records Bureau, this happened in five of the 12 murders resulting from such incidents in 2021, representing a 240 percent increase this year.
The area also saw an increase in murders this year compared to previous years. While there were 12 in 2021, there were 15 murders in 2020 and 12 in 2019, police officials said. A large percentage of these murders are also the result of illegal affairs.
“Illegality has long been a problem in the Coal Belt region of the region. Certain coal miners tend to develop extramarital affairs following family disputes. However, the threat has a devastating effect on families. Defendants and Victims’ Families Orphaned and living a miserable life,” said Dr Vishweshwar Rao, a psychologist from Mancherial.
Akhil Mahajan, deputy commissioner in charge of police affairs, said offenders were being registered and a quick investigation was being launched into these violations. He said steps were being taken to increase the murder conviction rate and prevent threats. He added that there was a particular focus on reducing murders.
