Hyderabad: The historic Murgi Chowk, popularly known as Mahbub Chowk Market, has finally been given a new lease of life, with the state government planning to complete the works within 18 months.
Currently, the market structure is weak and the reconstruction of the market will be done by the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority with an estimated budget of Rs 36 crore. The purpose of the exercise is to keep its original style intact.
On Twitter, Special Principal Secretary for Municipalities and Urban Development Arvind Kumar announced the news about the rebuilding of Murgi Chowk, tweeting: “Mahbub Chowk Market (aka #MurghiChowk) is completely run down and on the brink of collapse @GHMCOnline and # QQSUDA is taking rebuilding and rebuilding (keep original style intact) at Rs 36; starts 22nd Dec, takes 18 months @KTRTRS @asadowaisi.”
