New Delhi: Elon Musk lashed out at mainstream media on Saturday, saying top publications would do their best not to let Twitter help citizen journalism on its platform because it would undermine their monopoly on the flow of information.
The new Twitter CEO faces turmoil as fake accounts with Blue ticks continue to thrive on the platform via an $8 Blue subscription, saying that as Twitter pursues its goal of elevating citizen journalism, “the media elite will do everything in its power to stop This happened”.
“Mainstream media will still thrive, but increased competition from citizens will make them more accurate as their oligopoly on information is broken,” Musk added.
In June, the world’s richest man said he bought Twitter to avoid what he sees as a negative bias in mainstream media.
“I think the media can play an important role, but for anyone who reads a newspaper, it’s viewed in a rather negative light,” he told Twitter employees at a meeting.
“How many newspaper articles have you read that are positive and how many are negative? That’s clearly an overwhelmingly negative impact.”
According to Musk, traditional media “almost never” gets things right.
Last month, he posted “I tried to escape the mainstream media” in his imaginary car.
He tagged the car with various tactics the media apparently used to hurt him, including “half-truths,” “orchestrated events,” “unbalanced reporting,” “fabrication,” and “propaganda.”
