Hyderabad: Nagarkurnool-based Ravali Gali fulfilled the dreams of many young women on December 2, the day he was appointed as the British Deputy High Commissioner for Telangana.
According to Gareth Wynn Owen, British Deputy High Commissioner to Hyderabad, Ravali was smiling, vivacious and cheerful, carrying out her task with ease and confidence, and he gave up a day’s worth of Duties, assist Ravali. The challenge is run annually, with women in the 18-23 age group screened and one selected.
In an interview with ‘Telangana Today’, Ravali shared that she learned about the ‘UK Deputy High Commissioner, Telangana For A Day’ challenge through Azim Premji University’s senior year student pursuing a master’s degree.
While the challenge is usually organized on October 11, International Day of the Girl Child, this year it took place during the 16 Days of Action Against Gender-Based Violence, which began on November 25 and ended on December 10.
“My day as British Deputy High Commissioner started at Telangana Social Welfare Boarding School, of which I am an alumnus. I am happy to be back there. Later, we went to G Narayanamma Institute of Technology and Science, also Interacted with the students there. We discussed our entrepreneurial ideas and the whole experience was enriching,” she said.
Ravalli, from the countryside, encourages young girls in social welfare schools to “say no” and stand up for themselves when needed. “After finishing my studies, I plan to find a job and start a startup that focuses on the importance of education for the underprivileged in the community, gender, empowerment and caste,” the 22-year-old reveals.
