Hyderabad: Road Transport and Highway Union Minister Nitin Gadkari told the Lok Sabha that there is no need to convert Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Road 65 to six lanes as the Nandigama section in Union Krishna district already has four lanes.
Responding to a question from Telangana MPs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Gadkari said that in this section, the road with a total length of 181.5 kilometers is a four-lane expressway, which is sufficient to meet the current traffic demand. He further said that the works on the six-lane expressway have started from the 15th to the 40th kilometer of NH 65.
The NH-65 Nandigama-Ibrahimpatnam-Vijayawada section (49.2 km long) was transformed into a four-lane expressway in 2004, the minister said. He informed that 17 accident hot spots have been identified on NH 65 and accident prevention measures such as pavement markings, sign boards, solar signal lights and crash strips have been completed. Gadkari also stated in writing that permanent measures will be taken to prevent the accident from happening.
