Chennai: The XBB sub-variant of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is fast becoming the dominant player in India, with nine states reporting it, with Tamil Nadu leading the way.
GISIAD, an international research group that has been monitoring changes in the virus, reported 380 confirmed cases of XBB in India. Tamil Nadu reported 175 cases, followed by West Bengal with 103 cases.
Other states where XBB virus was detected were Odisha (35), Maharashtra (21), Delhi (18), Pondicherry (16), Karnataka (9), Gujarat ( 2) and Rajasthan (1).
