Hyderabad: With public outcry over traffic diversions on and around Jubilee Hills Road No 45, Traffic Police are conducting field studies to understand the impact of their actions.
Traffic police officers equipped with stopwatches will drive along stretches of road where diversions are implemented during peak and off-peak traffic hours, noting the travel time required to get from one place to another.
“This work will help us understand the extent of the advantage motorists are gaining through this initiative. The current collected data will be compared with previous data. Based on the results, we will plan our next steps,” said Police Joint Commissioner AV Ranganath.
Previously, motorists traveling from the KBR park junction to the Cable Bridge had to wait about 10 minutes at the signal at the Jubilee Hills checkpoint, pull out of traffic, wait another eight minutes at junction 45, and then cross 45, he said. Spent about 10 minutes in the chaotic traffic.
“Now that travel times are reduced, most motorists have noticed this and embraced our initiative. Some are against it and we will try to address their dissatisfaction by providing data collected through field studies,” he said, adding Adding that the plan was implemented after site visits and studies of the traffic situation by site officials and senior officials.
Motorists can also do their own field research, use a stopwatch to time sections of the road, and share the data online with traffic police via social media to better understand traffic conditions, Ranganath said.
“Traffic management requires public participation. The Hyderabad Traffic Police is always open to taking suggestions from citizens,” he added.
