Hyderabad: A female police officer working for the Hyderabad police allegedly committed suicide at her residence in Shahari Bandar on Wednesday.
D Surekha (24 years old) is a Constable of the 2018 Batch who works at the Shahalibanda Police Station and lives in Shamsheergunj with her sister. She is a native of Kandukoor village, Ranga Reddy district.
According to police, Surekha’s engagement ceremony took place in her hometown on Monday and she returned to Hyderabad the next day. Surekha’s older sister went to work on Wednesday when the policewoman locked the door of her home from the inside around 11am.
Around late afternoon, homeowner Srinivas Rao became suspicious because Surekha hadn’t come out of the house for a long time. He notified Surekha’s sister and later broke in to find the police hanging from the ceiling fan.
It is understood that the Shahalibanda police rushed to the scene and after preliminary investigations, the body was transferred to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. Police suspect Surekha was upset by some personal issues and may have taken her own life as a result.
A case has been registered and an investigation is ongoing. Police confiscated the officers’ mobile phones and analyzed them.
