Hyderabad: Professor Surajit Dhara, a faculty member at the Department of Physics, University of Hyderabad, has received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award 2020 for his outstanding research in the field of physics.
Traditionally, the awards are presented annually by the prime minister at an official ceremony in Delhi, but due to Covid-19, the high-profile awards ceremony was canceled. The event was last held in February 2019.
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has mailed the prizes to the winners. Prof. Basuthkar Jagadeeshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Hyderabad presented the award to Prof. Surajit Dhara in a special ceremony at the University’s Department of Physics.
The event was attended by Professor KC James Raju, Dean of the School of Physics, as well as staff, many distinguished alumni and guests from TIFR’s new School of Physics building close to campus.
Surajit Dhara received his MS and PhD degrees from Burdwan University (1998) and Raman Institute (2004), respectively. He was appointed as a professor at the Faculty of Physics, University of Hyderabad in 2016.
