London: Seven Anglo-Indians have been awarded Young Dentists Awards for excellence in dentistry across the UK.
Dubbed ‘the biggest party in dentistry’, the 2022 Dental Awards took place at the Athena Hotel in Leicester late last month.
Kiran Shankla and Rohit Keshav Sunil Patel won in the South East, while Sorabh Patel and Vishal Patel won in London.
Viraj Patel and Paavan Chouhan from the North West and Chetan Sharma from the Midlands joined 20 other recipients of the Young Dentist Award.
There are 13 categories for the awards, including Dental Laboratory of the Year, Therapist of the Year, Young Dentist, Hygienist of the Year, Dental Nurse of the Year and more.
To receive the award, young dentists must provide 750-word answers to a series of questions, providing supporting evidence of their work and involvement in the local community.
“It’s fantastic to be recognized at such a high level. All the hard work and sacrifice over nine years has come down to this moment,” Kiran Shankla, who works at Wood Lane Dental in Berkshire, told Henley Standard.
Shankla, 32, graduated from the University of Birmingham. Her areas of interest are minimally invasive dentistry, therapeutic early childhood and cosmetic dentistry.
“When the awards first launched 22 years ago, there were only five entries. This year there were more than 900 entries,” said James Goolnik, founder of Bow Lane Dental Group and one of the award’s long-time judges.
Goolnik noted that the winners are giving more back to the local community through their practice, with a greater emphasis on team approaches and training.
