Hyderabad: The four-lane two-way interchange from Shilpa Layout to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Gachibowli Junction will be opened in the coming days. Apart from the installation of street light poles, most of the civil works have been completed and the asphalt layer on the flyover has been laid.
Measuring 956m long and 16.60m wide, the Shilpa Layout overpass was built under the state government’s ambitious Strategic Roads Development Plan (SRDP) and has been hailed as an engineering feat by the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
Some spans of the flyover have been installed approximately 18 meters above ground level and span the existing Gachibowli flyover, making it different from other facilities built to ease traffic.
Once this flyover is available to people, the connectivity from Shilpa Layout to ORR will greatly improve. Other benefits of the project include traffic mitigation at Gachibowli Junction and better connectivity between Hi-Tech City and the financial district.
On the Shilpa Layout road, peak hour traffic is 1,464 passenger vehicles (PCUs) per hour in 2020, and peak hour traffic is projected to be 5,194 PCUs per hour in 2040.
With the flyover soon to open, GHMC has issued a tender for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning, including operations and maintenance (O&M), of dynamic lighting decorative lighting on both sides of the Shilpa Layout flyover for a period of five years.
