New Delhi: Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir believes fast bowler Mohammed Siraj should be named the series man of the match alongside Virat Kohli, who finished the ODI series against Sri Lanka as the leading wicket-taker.
India scored a stunning 317-run victory in their third and final ODI against Sri Lanka on Sunday, with Siraj scoring a four-run lead to seal the 3-0 series win.
Siraj took two wickets in Guwahati’s first ODI before taking three wickets in the next in Kolkata.
“He’s on par with Virat Kohli. There should be a joint man for the series. He’s brilliant and his spells come from the right batting wickets. I know you’re always tempted to give a batsman the best player of the series award , but Siraj is definitely an exception. In every game, he sets the tone.
“He’s a future-oriented player and has gotten better after each series,” Star Sports quoted Gambhir as saying.
Kohli, on the other hand, put on a show in the final ODI as he scored an unbeaten 166 runs off 110 balls, his 46th ODI ton and 21st at home in an ODI, making him Exceeded Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 20. He averaged 141.50 including two centuries and finished the series as the top scorer.
