Hyderabad: Sardar is a festival of a different type, a parade of bulls or male buffaloes, with big celebrations taking place across the city on Thursday. The day after Diwali, the Yadav community celebrated this colourful carnival, with bulls brought from various states making their presence felt in the congregation in Narayanguda.
Bulls from Haryana and Punjab, especially ‘Krishna’ and ‘Baahubali’ stole the show with their huge features in the parade. The majestic bulls are adorned with ornaments, anklets, garlands, and their horns are colored in addition to a full-body massage with mustard oil. They also wore special headdresses decorated with peacock feathers.
Under the trainer’s training, several bulls showed off their signature moves, including standing on their hind legs, to everyone’s amazement.
The streets leading to Narayanguda from Musheerabad, Kachiguda, Barkatpura and Himayatnagar come alive as the bulls make their way to the congregation to “teen maar” beats and DJ songs. There are lively tracks in the background, with young people dancing to the tune of the bulls, while some take selfies with them.
At several locations in Chappal Bazar, Kachiguda and Narayanguda, huge stages were set up with decorative lasers and disco lights to welcome the bulls and celebrate with their owners. According to organizers, nearly 40,000 people, including several from neighboring states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, came to witness one of these festivals unique to Hyderabad.
