Hyderabad: Acclaimed director SS Rajamouli opens doors to Indian stories around the world. Apart from grand landscapes and allegories perfectly narrated against the backdrop of action, Rajamuli not only raises the bar of Indian cinema but also introduces Indian stories in a different way of narration.
The filmmaker has deep ties to Raiders of the Lost Ark when it comes to crafting great environments. In a recent interview, he expressed his motivation for creating the Universal series, saying, “I’ve always wanted to do a Universal film like Raiders of the Lost Ark or Dan Brown’s world of books. A rough sketch of an adventure movie. We haven’t finalized the script yet, but work is in progress.”
Also, while revealing more information about the film, he added: “My next film with Mahesh Babu will be an action-adventure film that travels around the world. It will be an action-adventure film with A James Bond or Raiders of the Lost Ark movie with Indian roots.” The film, called SSMB29, is expected to be released in 2025.
Commenting on the plans to expand SSMB29 into a universal series, writer and Rajamouli’s father KV Vijayendra Prasad said, “It’s in line with the Indiana Jones series. It will be an emotional adventure action drama, like raiders of the lost ark [1981]. My script should be finished by July and we hope to make it into a series. We left the climax unfinished to explore the possibility of a sequel. “
A source added, “Both the writer and director think it can grow into a series, with each version led by a central character. Other key characters may join him in subsequent entries.”
Meanwhile, Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Dial of Fate will hit theaters a day earlier than its U.S. release. Watch the action-adventure film in theaters starting June 29 in English, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.
