Karim Nagar: Agriculture is one of the few sectors that is undergoing rapid change using modern technology. The pace of agricultural mechanization was accelerated.
While various devices have been introduced to simplify the growing process amid labor shortages on farms, now the department has added another gadget, the “drone”.
For example, drones will be used to spray pesticides. As part of its plan, a Jayashankar Agricultural University professor has decided to train farmers in drone operations, and the university may set up a “drone academy” for this purpose.
After the training is complete, farmers will be issued a license as a “drone operator” so that trained farmers can spray pesticides on crops.
In addition to mixing a certain amount of water with the pesticide, farmers will be trained on how to spray without causing any harm to animals, birds or the environment, agricultural scientists say.
While the program of the training program is yet to be finalized, the training will be conducted through Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
Since agricultural scientists are not experts in drone operation, they require the manufacturing companies that supply the drones to the government to train farmers and set up repair centers to carry out regular maintenance on the drones.
To encourage the use of drones in the agricultural sector, the state government is also offering a 50% subsidy to those who buy them. Several farmer producer organizations have come forward to buy the technology.
Type certificates and UIN numbers are mandatory for drone manufacturing companies. Only two companies, IoTechWorld and Garuda Aerospace, fit those parameters, the scientists said. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, representative of Garuda Aerospace, demonstrated the drone twice at Jammikunta.
Speaking of Telangana todayJammikunta KVK coordinator Venkateshwar Rao said that while they have not received clear guidelines on the training to be imparted, higher-level officials are working on it.
Their aim is to conduct drone demonstrations on 250 hectares of land during Yasangi. Informed them of the application to approve the drone, he expressed confidence that it will be completed by January and February.
Although two farmers, one from Bethigal in Veenavanka mandal and the other from Dandepalli in Elkathurthi mandal, are using drones to spray pesticides, they may not have been trained.
He pointed out that precautions must be taken when spraying pesticides and that no harm should be done to animals, birds and the environment.
