Hyderabad: To ensure high-achieving students gain a place in the state’s on-site admissions for private majors, especially engineering colleges, the Department of Technical Education plans to conduct centralized on-site admissions through web-based counseling beginning next academic year (i.e. 2023-24).
Plans are being drawn up to abolish the current practice of institutional field admission and internal sliding (course changes within the same college) for a variety of professional courses offered by private independent colleges, as most of these were found to be in breach of grade and retention rules.
For example, in the on-site enrollment of engineering, the vacancies are filled first with internal slips, and then filled under on-site enrollment. However, the rule has been adopted by several private engineering colleges, according to officials.
Also, preference should be given to candidates who have passed the Telangana Common Entrance Examination for Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine (TS EAMCET) and passed the intermediate level, followed by candidates without TS EAMCET grades and passed the intermediate level. Even this rule is flouted by colleges, paying more or admitting students on a first-come, first-served basis. Also, TS EAMCET qualified and unqualified candidates have to pay Rs. 1,300 and Rs. 2,100 as processing fee for each engineering college admitted on-site.
This academic year, on the basis of the pilot program, the department will implement centralized enrollment for the state government’s polytechnic colleges.
“Centralized point admissions will secure grades and reservations. In this new system, one application and fee will be sufficient for admission to all participating colleges, rather than the current practice of submitting separate applications and paying fees at each college,” an official said. Say.
A total of 61,702 engineering seats are filled for the current academic year 2022-23 against a quota of 79,346 convenors at 177 universities. Compared with last year, the number of enrollment has increased, 175 colleges and universities have 79,822 places, and a total of 57,545 places have been admitted. Officials attribute the increase in enrollments to a large number of students enrolling in courses in computer science and engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, robotics and more.
