Allen: Memphis Depay and Daly Blind scored in the first half as Denzier Dumfries knocked the United States out of the World Cup 3-1 on Saturday as the Netherlands advanced to the quarter-finals.
Haji Wright, who came off the bench in the second half, cut the United States to 2-1 in the 76th minute when Christian Pulisic’s cross hit his back foot and went past goalkeeper Andris Norpert into the net. . But Dumfries, who assisted the first two goals, volleyed and scored in the 81st minute.
The Oranje were runners-up in 1974, 1978 and 2010, extending their unbeaten streak to 19 games and face either Argentina or Australia on Friday.
