Hyderabad: A three-day-old baby boy who developed respiratory problems and heart defects within hours of being born at a hospital in Nanded has successfully underwent life-saving surgery at KIMS Cuddles in Kondapur.
A team of doctors from KIMS Cuddles managed to bring a baby boy back to life in a marathon 12-hour operation. Led by Dr. C. Aparna, Chief Neonatologist and Chief of Neonatology at KIMS Cuddles, the infant was transferred to a non-invasive ventilation system.
Pediatric cardiologist Dr. Sudeep Verma diagnosed the baby boy with TGA (transposition of the great arteries), a congenital heart defect in which the two main arteries leaving the heart are reversed.
The complex corrective surgery was performed by Dr Anil Dharmapuram, Senior Cardiac Surgeon, KIMS Hospital in the presence of Dr Nagarajan, Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiologist.
The NICU team, including Dr. Aravinda Lochani and Dr. Pranitha Reddy, provided the infant with postoperative intensive care, including ventilator support, peritoneal dialysis, blood transfusions, antibiotics, blood thinners and anti-heart failure drugs.
A fully recovered baby was released from hospital and taken to Nanded.
