Hyderabad: The TRS (BRS) on Monday observed that the Constitutional Court of the Supreme Court upheld the validity of the 103rd Constitutional Amendment and paved the way for 10% of government jobs and educational institutions to be reserved for “weaker segments of the economy”, which will only strengthen Party demand for a census of backward classes in Telangana.
TRS Parliamentary Party Leader K Keshava Rao said in a statement that the B.C. census is mandatory to ensure that no vulnerable part of society is denied opportunity. He asked the centre to proceed with the B.C. census, considering resolutions passed by the Telangana Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Assembly.
He suggested the center change its stance on the B.C. census at least after the Supreme Court decision, as that would ensure justice for all castes by effectively enforcing reservations.
