Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Saturday suspended Hindi Department professor Ravi Ranjan with immediate effect.
The university took the decision after the professor was arrested by Gachibowli police on charges of attempting to sexually assault a foreign female student.
“Following a criminal complaint being investigated by the Gachibowli Police Station, Professor Ravi Ranjan has been suspended with immediate effect,” the UoH said in a statement.
Earlier, protests broke out on the university campus because the professor was suspected of sexually assaulting a foreign female student.
A large number of students, headed by the student union, gathered at the main entrance of the university, demanding justice for the victims and the immediate suspension of the professor.
