Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chairman Brijlal Khabri claimed that the Congress base is growing rapidly in the state. He said the party had grown a lot in the past two-and-a-half months and would bounce back in the next six months.
In conversation with IANS, Khabri said that the team building process is on hold due to preparations for the plebiscite and if polls are held, they will be announced after the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Asked about the party’s preparations for the city polls, Hubry said Congress would go all out to compete and win in the municipal corporations.
In the absence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in recent polls, Dalit votes have shifted to the Samajwadi Party (SP), while Congress is trying to win back its vote pool.
The state unit chairman has claimed that his party will have the full support of the Dalit community in the upcoming elections.
Asked if there were governors like Naseem al-Din Siddiqui and Salman Kulshid in the party and his plans to move the party forward, he said the problem does not exist and people are aware of it. This awareness brought them solidarity with Rahul Gandhi.
Regarding the issue of factions within the party, he said that all disputes within the party are resolved through dialogue.
On Priyanka Gandhi not visiting Uttar Pradesh after the parliamentary elections, he said she was unable to travel to the state due to work, which included monitoring polls in Himachal Pradesh.
Under her leadership, Khabri said, the state is working and having frequent conversations.
The UP leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra will be done in three days. In response, the UPCC chief said the state was not initially involved in the planned route but was later included at the request of the state organisation.
Like other states, they want to keep pace with the party leadership, he said.
Asked about the possibility of opposition unity when opposition parties such as the Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal rejected Congress’ invitation to Yatra, Khabri said the party aimed to curb hatred and would greet everyone on the way.
He was informed that the party would invite like-minded groups including doctors, engineers and NGOs to join the pilgrimage.
He welcomed those who wanted to come together to save the constitution and said the state’s Khap Panchayats would participate in the Yatra.
On the question of SP and BSP joining Yatra, he said BSP was influenced and controlled by BJP.
Asked about the possibility of an alliance with the BSP, he dismissed the claims of former BSP MP Shyam Sundar Yadav as untrue.
On forming an alliance with SP, he said that Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav have formed alliances in the past, so the possibility cannot be denied.
On Congress preparing for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he said many MPs would be elected from the party.
Commenting on the Hath Se Hath Jodo Yatra, Khabri said that in the planned launch on January 26, the leaders will visit villages and talk about the 3800 km long Bharat Jodo Yatra.
