Hyderabad: YSR Telangana party founder YS Sharmila was released on bail by the Municipal Court after she was arrested by police on November 29 after she went to the official residence of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to protest an alleged attack on her convoy by ruling TRS cadres. ongoing padayatra.
During the march, she was seen getting into a damaged vehicle and driving, but was pulled over by police, according to television footage.
After she refused to get out of the car, the police used a crane to tow away the vehicle she was sitting in.
A press release issued by Raj Bhavan on Tuesday night said Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan expressed distress over the manner in which Sharmila was arrested and expressed concern for her safety and health.
The sight of Shamila’s car being towed while it was inside was “disturbing,” the governor said in it.
Regardless of political affiliation or ideology, women leaders and cadres need to be treated with more dignity and respect, the release added.
On Monday, the YSRT party chief and her supporters condemned Sharmila for the alleged attack during the state-wide padayatra known as “Praja Prasthanam” in Warangal district and marched towards Rao’s camp office to besiege it but were stopped by police on their way.
Later, Sharmila was detained and transferred to the police station, where a case was filed against them.
Police accused Sharmila of driving her vehicle in a reckless and negligent manner, “abusing” officers and preventing them from carrying out their duties.
Sharmila’s husband, Anil, disputed the case against his wife, saying “it’s very, very unfair”.
“We are not criminals…we are peace lovers…she (Sharmila) is a fighter,” he said.
Sharmila’s mother, YS Vijayamma, condemned the attitude of the TRS government, saying that both people and God will give an appropriate answer.
The protest march came a day after a caravan that Sharmila was using as part of her padayatra was attacked and set ablaze by TRS militants.
Due to the security situation, Sharmila was stopped in Warangal and sent back to Hyderabad under police escort.
To protest against Sharmila’s comments on TRS MLA from Narsampet, ruling party activists gathered in large numbers and to prevent any law and order situation, police dispersed TRS workers and YSR Telangana party workers.
Sharmila, former chief minister of United Andhra Pradesh, daughter of the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy and sister of current AP chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has undertaken the trek that has so far crossed the 3,500km mark across Telangana 75 council sections, the parties said.
