AHMEDABAD, INDIA – A Canadian citizen is among the at least 240 people killed after an Air India flight bound for London crashed shortly after takeoff in Ahmedabad, India, on Thursday.
The family of a dentist from Mississauga, Ontario, has confirmed she was on the flight.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed into a residential area near the airport, hitting a medical college. Officials have reported at least one survivor from the crash.
This is the first fatal crash involving a Boeing 787 aircraft.
In a social media post, Canada’s Prime Minister stated he was “devastated to learn of the crash” and that his thoughts are with the loved ones of everyone on board. Canadian transportation and consular officials are in close contact with their Indian counterparts.
