SKEENA NEWS — The results are in for British Columbia’s favorite baby names of 2025, and a familiar classic has returned to the throne. According to the latest data from B.C.’s Vital Statistics Agency, Noah has reclaimed the title of the year’s most beloved name for newborns across the province.

Noah’s return to first place marks a shift from 2024, when Oliver held the top position. This year, Noah saw a significant surge in popularity, with 198 more parents choosing the name compared to the previous year’s champion. Interestingly, Noah previously held the top spot in both 2022 and 2023, solidifying its status as a decade-defining favorite.

    The 2025 Top 10 List

The Vital Statistics Agency only lists names that occur five or more times in a calendar year. The top 10 names for 2025 represent a blend of traditional and modern favorites:

    1. Noah
    2. Oliver
    3. Theodore
    4. Liam
    5. Olivia
    6. Charlotte
    7. Jack
    8. Henry
    9. Sophia
    10. James

    A Year of New Arrivals

From January 1 until December 15, 2025, British Columbia welcomed 41,557 registered births. The annual list provided by the Vital Statistics Agency is based on these birth registrations, offering a fascinating snapshot of regional naming trends.

Comparing this year to 2024, several names have remained staples in the top tier, including Liam, Olivia, and Charlotte. However, names like Lucas, Isla, Amelia, and Leo, which were in the 2024 top 10, were replaced this year by Jack, Henry, Sophia, and James.

    Explore 100 Years of Trends

For parents in the Skeena region and beyond who are searching for the “perfect” name, the Province offers a Compare Baby Name Popularity tool. This interactive feature allows users to enter up to five names and chart their popularity over the last 5, 10, 20, 50, or even 100 years.

The agency also provides open datasets covering 100 years of baby names for both boys and girls, licensed under the Open Government License – British Columbia. Whether you are looking for a name that stands the test of time or a unique modern choice, the data provides a deep dive into the evolving identity of B.C.’s youngest citizens.
