PRINCE RUPERT, B.C. – Prince Rupert City Council is set to tackle several key issues at its regular meeting tonight, including the awarding of a multi-million dollar paving contract and the public release of the city’s 2024 salary disclosure report.
The meeting, scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, will see council vote on awarding a contract for the 2025 Capital Paving Program. A report from the Director of Operations recommends awarding the nearly $2.8 million contract to Zulu Aggregates Inc., which submitted a significantly lower bid than the only other competitor. The work will cover various trouble spots throughout the city as well as areas that have recently undergone major water and sewer upgrades.
Also on the agenda is the approval of the 2024 Statement of Financial Information (SOFI). This annual report, often called the “sunshine list,” discloses the remuneration and expenses for all elected officials and for city employees who earned over $75,000 in the previous year.
Council will also receive an update on the activities of the city’s Indigenous Relations Committee. A staff report outlines the next steps for developing a Reconciliation Action Plan, which will include a free videography and media summer camp for Indigenous youth and a large-scale public engagement event in September, aligning with the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Other items include the monthly report from the Fire Chief, which noted a significant increase in emergency incidents in May 2025 compared to the previous year, and the final adoption of the City’s 2024 Annual Report.
