PRINCE RUPERT, B.C. – The Prince Rupert Men’s Jubilee golf title is heading to Kitimat after a dramatic final-round battle that saw the eventual winner overcome the defending champion from Terrace.

The Kitimat golfer shot impressive rounds of 72 and 70 for a two-day total of 142, ultimately winning by a slim two-stroke margin.

The tournament came down to a thrilling back-and-forth duel on Sunday. The Terrace golfer, who won the title in 2024, held a four-stroke lead early in the final round. The momentum shifted dramatically on the front nine’s final hole when the Kitimat challenger scored the tournament’s only eagle on the Par-5 ninth, drawing the two players even.

The tournament was decided on the notoriously difficult tenth hole, where the Terrace player carded a double-bogey while the Kitimat golfer made par, creating the final two-stroke margin of victory.

This marks the fourth time the Kitimat golfer has won the Prince Rupert Jubilee, having previously claimed the title in 2011, 2017, and 2019.

While the main championship went to a visitor, the overall low net title was captured by a promising local talent. A Prince Rupert high school student, fresh off a strong performance at the provincial championships with his Charles Hays team, won the honour with a net score of 136 (four-under-par).

The results showcase the depth of golf talent across the entire Skeena region, with top finishers hailing from all three major communities.
