    Honouring the Lives Lost – RCMP Formally Identify Victims of Tumbler Ridge Tragedy

    TUMBLER RIDGE — In a solemn update provided on February 12, 2026, the BC RCMP officially confirmed the identities of the eight victims killed in the February 10 mass shooting. Working in close consultation with the families, authorities released names and heartfelt personal tributes to honour those who lost their lives at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and a private residence on Fellers Avenue.

    The community now begins the long process of healing, with the RCMP emphasizing that the focus must remain on supporting the families and respecting their privacy during this time of profound sorrow.

    Remembering the Victims

    The following individuals have been identified as the victims of this tragedy:

    At Tumbler Ridge Secondary School

    • Zoey Benoit (12): Described by her family as a resilient, vibrant, and incredibly smart girl who brought laughter to everyone she met. Her family shared that she was “the strongest little girl you could meet” and will forever be cherished in their hearts.
    • Kylie Smith (12): Remembered as the “light” of her family, Kylie was a talented artist who dreamed of attending art school in Toronto. Her family noted her deep love for her friends, family, and her school.
    • Abel Mwansa (12)
    • Ticaria Lampert (12)
    • Ezekiel Schofield (13)
    • Shannda Aviugana-Durand (39): A dedicated educator at the secondary school.

    At the Fellers Avenue Residence

    • Emmett Jacobs (11)
    • Jennifer Jacobs (39)

    A Message from Law Enforcement

    Deputy Commissioner Dwayne McDonald, Commanding Officer of the BC RCMP, offered sincere condolences to the grieving community.

    “This is a time of deep sorrow, and many are still processing the weight of this tragedy,” McDonald stated. “We will continue to support the families, respect their wishes, and walk with the community as it begins the long journey toward healing.”

    The RCMP is facilitating the release of family statements and photos to support the collective healing of Tumbler Ridge. They have asked that the media and the public provide the families with the necessary space and time to navigate this devastating loss.
