TERRACE, B.C. – Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 183 calls for service between August 9 and August 15, with a notable incident involving a man from New Mexico who was reportedly soliciting women for money in exchange for sex.
According to a police press release, several women complained to RCMP about the man’s behavior on August 12. Officers were able to track the out-of-town visitor to a trailer park. Police “made clear… that his behaviour was not appropriate and would not be tolerated in this town,” the press release stated. The man voluntarily left the community following the conversation with police.
In other notable incidents from the week:
On August 12, Terrace RCMP pulled over a vehicle driving without lights just after midnight. An officer noticed a knife near one of the three occupants, prompting a search of the vehicle. Police located multiple break-in tools, balaclavas, bolt cutters, unstamped cigarettes, and drug paraphernalia. The driver was issued a ticket for the headlight violation, while the other items were seized.
On August 10, police responded to a report of a blue pickup truck driving without licence plates. RCMP located the vehicle near Old Remo and observed the driver pull into a driveway. As police initiated a traffic stop, the driver fled into a nearby forest. Officers apprehended the man, who explained that he had run because he did not have insurance. He was issued tickets for driving without a licence and without insurance. He was also issued a 24-hour roadside driving prohibition after police observed he was under the influence of a controlled substance. The pickup truck was impounded.
Police also responded to a report of men discharging firearms in a hotel parking lot on August 14. RCMP found three men with airsoft guns, who stated they had just purchased the items and were testing them out. The men were issued a warning.
