More Summer Jobs for Youth Available in Skeena as Federal Program Expands

TERRACE, B.C. – Youth across the Skeena region looking for summer work have a new batch of opportunities available, as the federal government announced it is adding up to 6,000 more positions to its popular Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program.

The national program was already on track to create 70,000 jobs, but the expansion aims to provide even more youth aged 15 to 30 with valuable first-work experiences. The program provides wage subsidies to employers, allowing them to hire summer staff they might not otherwise be able to afford.

While the announcement was made in Ontario, the impact is being felt right here in the Northwest. A search of the national Job Bank website reveals several CSJ-funded positions currently open for applications in the Skeena region.

Local opportunities include roles such as summer camp counsellors, non-profit administrative assistants, positions with local tourism operators, and community outreach workers. These jobs provide not only a paycheque but also hands-on experience in fields vital to the local community.

Patty Hajdu, the federal Minister of Jobs and Families, said the program helps “build a strong Canadian economy and secure good jobs for youth.”

For young people in Terrace, Kitimat, and surrounding communities, the process is straightforward. Job seekers can visit the Job Bank website (jobbank.gc.ca) or use the mobile app and search for “Canada Summer Jobs” in their local area. The hiring period is currently open and runs until July 21, 2025.

The program is a key opportunity for both students seeking to build their resumes and for local non-profits and small businesses looking for enthusiastic summer help.
