TERRACE, B.C. – Coast Mountain College is making it easier for residents across the Northwest to pursue business education with the launch of a new, flexible “Business Administration – Open Studies” option.

This new pathway allows community members and local professionals to take individual business courses without having to commit to a full diploma or certificate program.

“The new Business Administration – Open Studies option allows Coast Mountain College to better serve the needs of community members and local businesses,” explained the college’s Executive Director of External Relations in the announcement. “Rather than committing to a full diploma or certificate program, participants can choose just the courses that are most relevant to their goals.”

The Open Studies option is designed for a wide range of people:

    • A professional looking to upgrade a specific skill, such as accounting or marketing.
    • A small business owner wanting to learn more about management or business law.
    • An individual curious about post-secondary education who wants to try a few courses before enrolling in a full-time program.

A major benefit of the program is that credits earned through Open Studies can later be used to enter into a full CMTN Business Administration Certificate or Diploma program, or be transferred toward a bachelor’s degree at a B.C. university.

The program is available at the Terrace, Smithers, and Prince Rupert campuses, with registration now open for the fall and winter semesters.

Courses starting in September 2025 include Financial Accounting, Business Computers, and Microeconomics. Courses starting in January 2026 include Canadian Business Law, Business Ethics, and Introduction to Marketing.

This new initiative provides a valuable and accessible pathway for lifelong learning and professional development in the Skeena region.
