TERRACE, B.C. – Dozens of volunteers from across the Skeena region came together in a massive, coordinated effort today to search for Thomas Kelly, the beloved husband and father who has been missing since July 12. The heartfelt community response saw search teams deployed on foot, by boat, and with drones, covering a large and challenging stretch of terrain.

The extensive search, which began at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, was a testament to the community’s determination to bring Tom home. Participants have praised the incredible work of organizers, particularly Jahaziel Charitye Trudell, for relentlessly coordinating the complex, day-long effort.

The outpouring of support from local residents and businesses was a crucial part of the day’s success. A special thank you was extended to City of Terrace Councillor Inderpal Dhillon, who generously provided snacks, water, and lunch to keep the volunteers fuelled and hydrated throughout the day.

In a critical contribution to the safety of the search crews, Mary and Sarah from Westcan Advanced Communications Solutions donated the use of rental radios, ensuring all teams could stay connected while navigating the difficult terrain.

Organizers and the Kelly family have expressed their profound gratitude to every person involved. “A heartfelt thank you to everyone who showed up for today’s search,” a statement read. “Whether you were out searching, helping behind the scenes, or donating resources — thank you. This effort wouldn’t be possible without each of you.”

Search Continues with Urgent Need for Divers

While today’s search has concluded, the effort to find Tom Kelly is not over. The family is now making a direct and urgent plea for a new kind of specialized help.

“At this point in time, the family is requesting support from dive teams within the region to check a few areas,” the statement continued.

The family has identified several specific areas of interest in the Skeena River that require underwater examination. They are asking for any professional or highly experienced dive teams, whether commercial, recreational, or rescue-affiliated, to please consider offering their assistance. The community is encouraged to share this request widely to reach anyone who may have the skills and equipment to help.
