TERRACE, B.C. – The BC River Forecast Centre has issued a High Streamflow Advisory for the Skeena River, the Nass River, and all their surrounding tributaries due to rapidly rising water levels.
The advisory, issued Thursday morning, means that river levels are rising or are expected to rise quickly. At this time, no major flooding is expected. However, the rapidly melting snowpack in the mountains is causing rivers and streams to swell, making riverbanks potentially unstable and dangerous.
Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution near all waterways, especially with children and pets. Fast-flowing water can be unpredictable, and riverbanks may be eroded and unsafe.
The advisory also includes the Stikine River and its tributaries further north.
Officials will continue to monitor the situation. Any changes or upgrades to the advisory, such as a Flood Watch or Flood Warning, will be announced immediately.
The public is encouraged to stay informed by checking the latest updates directly from the BC River Forecast Centre website.
