TERRACE, B.C. – The Kitsumkalum First Nation is looking to hire high school students and community members for a paid summer position with its Community Garden and Food Security Program.
The opportunity is aimed at individuals who are passionate about growing food, interested in food security, or looking to learn skills related to farming and gardening.
The full-time summer work involves a wide range of hands-on duties, including planting vegetables, weeding garden beds, harvesting produce, and assisting with the construction of garden boxes and greenhouses within the community.
Participants will gain experience across multiple sites, including the garden at ‘Na Aksa Gyilak’yoo School, Kitsumkalum’s plot on Farmer Cam’s land, a crop-sharing initiative with the Ksan Society, and other plots throughout the Kitsumkalum area.
The program offers paid training and a 35-hour work week. For high school students, the work hours may also be eligible to count toward graduation credits.
The program begins as early as June 23 for available community members and in early July for students. The student positions run until August 29, while adult positions extend to September 30.
This grant-funded program is a valuable opportunity for those looking to gain practical skills in food production while contributing to community well-being.
Interested individuals are asked to submit their resume by email to sndooyn@kitsumkalum.com or drop it off in person at the Kitsumkalum Band Office front desk.
