KITIMAT, B.C. – LNG Canada has advised the community that flaring associated with the start-up of Train 2 will be extended beyond the originally anticipated date of November 10th to a new end date of November 20th.

The company stated that this ten-day extension is necessary to safely complete crucial commissioning activities, including equipment testing, system tuning, and process stabilization at the facility.

During this extended period, flaring will be intermittent, with flare heights expected to range significantly from 20 meters up to 90 meters. LNG Canada reminds the public that there may be intermittent visible emissions and increased noise associated with this work.

Flaring is a Required Safety Measure

LNG Canada emphasizes that flaring is a provincially regulated safety measure that ensures the controlled, efficient combustion of natural gas during specific operational phases. It functions as a critical relief device to safely manage hydrocarbons, and it is not expected to be routine once the facility settles into regular operations.

The company appreciates the community’s patience during this necessary technical phase.

Members of the public who have questions or concerns can contact the company directly by visiting lngcanada.ca/contact or by calling 1-833-632-LNGC (5642).
