KITIMAT, B.C. – The first-ever vessel to collect a cargo of Canadian liquefied natural gas (LNG), the carrier Gaslog Glasgow, arrived in Kitimat early Saturday morning, marking the final, visible step before a new chapter in Canadian energy history begins.
Live marine tracking data confirms the 290-metre, Shell-chartered vessel is now safely moored at the new LNG Canada export terminal in the Douglas Channel. The ship had been waiting in holding patterns offshore for several days before making its final approach under the guidance of BC Coast Pilots on Friday evening.
The arrival of the tanker sets the stage for the historic first loading of Canadian LNG. The LNG Canada plant produced its “first drop” of liquefied natural gas last weekend and is now ready to transfer its first cargo for shipment.
This milestone aligns with previous reports that the first export could depart on or around Canada Day, July 1, making for a deeply symbolic moment for the nation. The community of Kitimat and the global energy sector are now watching closely as the loading process is set to begin.
