TERRACE, B.C. – A vital new career pathway has officially opened for high school students in Northern B.C. as Northern Health (NH) launches the first official cohort of its Seek, Experience, Explore, Discover (SEED) program this November 2025.

The SEED program is a collaborative effort designed to directly address the critical need for healthcare professionals in the North by exposing local students to career paths they might not otherwise consider.

    A Regional Partnership for Recruitment

The program is a joint initiative that demonstrates a unified commitment to developing local talent. Key partners in the effort include:

    • School District 57
    • College of New Caledonia (CNC)
    • University of Northern BC (UNBC)
    • Northern Health Volunteer Services and Recruitment

Following a successful pilot conducted in February 2025, the data analysis confirmed the program’s value, leading to the official launch of the first cohort this month.

    Fostering Local Talent

Through participation in SEED, high school students are offered high-quality job shadowing and career observation experiences. The goal is to demystify the healthcare sector, moving beyond traditional roles to showcase the diverse range of career paths available in a modern health authority.

The initiative strengthens NH’s collaborative relationships with local education partners, solidifying the commitment to enhancing student experiences and retaining talent within the region. Students who are interested in learning more about the SEED program can inquire with their school’s career counsellor for details.

The journey of this first official SEED cohort will be followed closely, as it aims to provide the necessary insights and inspiration to cultivate the next generation of healthcare professionals right here in Northern B.C.
