An Apology to Our Readers
To our valued readers,
At Skeena News, our mission is to serve the community with accurate, timely, and trustworthy reporting.
Today an article was published on our platform stating that the Terrace River Kings hockey club planned to take a hiatus in the upcoming season. This information was incorrect. The Terrace River Kings have made no such announcement and are actively preparing for the 2025–2026 season.
This error originated from a report submitted by one of our independent contributors, Brian, who did not follow our standard verification procedures before publication. While we encourage contributors to bring forward stories, it remains our responsibility to ensure that every piece of information shared with our readers is thoroughly vetted and corroborated. In this case, we did not live up to that responsibility.
As soon as readers brought this to our attention, we took immediate action to remove the article from our website and social media channels. We will be publishing a fully verified update to accurately reflect the River Kings’ plans.
We are taking this incident extremely seriously. We are implementing stricter editorial controls to ensure that no article is published without rigorous verification, regardless of the source. Additional training and oversight measures are also being introduced for all contributors and editors.
To the Terrace River Kings organization, its players, volunteers, and supporters—please accept our sincere apologies for the confusion this may have caused. And to you, our readers, we apologize for falling short of the trust you place in us.
We understand that credibility is the foundation of any news organization. We are committed to earning back your trust by doing better—through transparency, accountability, and a renewed commitment to getting it right.
Thank you for holding us to the high standard this community deserves.
Sincerely,
The Skeena News Team
