TERRACE, B.C. – As Pride Month comes to a close, communities across the Skeena region and the country have been marking the occasion with celebrations of diversity, inclusion, and support for the LGBTQ2S+ community.
In Terrace, the City officially recognized the month with the raising of the Pride Flag at City Hall. The flag serves as a visible symbol of support and a recognition of the contributions of LGBTQ2S+ individuals to the community.
June is recognized globally as Pride Month, a time to honour the history of the LGBTQ2S+ rights movement and to celebrate the diversity of sexual and gender identities.
The local recognition in the Northwest reflects a broader trend across the country. This year, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and other branches of the Canadian Armed Forces were a visible presence in Pride Parades in cities from coast to coast, including Toronto and Ottawa. The participation is part of the military’s ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where all members can serve authentically and with pride.
From official flag-raisings in our local towns to members of our national military marching in parades, the events of this month serve as a reminder of the importance of creating a safe and welcoming environment for all residents of the Skeena region.
