TERRACE, B.C. – After nearly three years leading the Terrace RCMP detachment, the city’s top police officer is transferring to a new role on Vancouver Island.
The Inspector, who has served as the Officer in Charge of the Terrace detachment since arriving from Smithers in the summer of 2022, will be taking on a new position as one of two operational support Inspectors in Nanaimo. The move represents a significant step, as the Nanaimo detachment is roughly four times the size of Terrace’s, with approximately 180 officers.
His tenure in Terrace was marked by a focus on addressing prolific property crime and navigating the public safety challenges of the ongoing opioid crisis. He was a frequent presence at city council meetings, providing regular updates on crime statistics and police initiatives, and often stressed the importance of community partnerships in tackling root causes of crime.
During his time as commander, the detachment also contended with issues related to major industrial project traffic and increased calls for service.
Officials have confirmed that an Acting Detachment Commander will be appointed from within the local detachment to manage operations while a formal search for a permanent replacement is conducted. The transfer is set to be effective at the end of June.
