SKEENA REGION – The dedicated community search team for Thomas Kelly, who has been missing since July 12, is launching a final, urgent search effort this weekend, October 4th and 5th, before winter conditions halt river operations until next year.

With water levels recently dropping to an optimal mid-August level, the community is racing against the calendar to cover the critical downstream sections of the Skeena River.

The focus of this final major push will be the area from South Skeena River Provincial Park through to the Haysport and Port Essington estuary. Due to the strong currents and tidal influence in this area, the team is making an urgent appeal for specific, specialized resources.

ISO: Certified Water HRD K9 Teams and Experienced Operators

The search team is specifically seeking a certified water Human Remains Detection (HRD) K9 team. A trained team would be critical in providing assurances to the family and effectively guiding search crews.

The team is also appealing for experienced jet boat operators who possess the skill and local knowledge to navigate the strong currents and tidal influence of the Skeena River estuary safely. Additional boats are needed to support the drone crews, allowing them to launch and work effectively over the vast shoreline and estuary.

The community emphasizes that this search represents the last major effort before winter weather and hydrometric conditions shut down the river search until next August. Every form of assistance is deeply appreciated by the Sampson-Kelly family.

How to Connect and Offer Support

The search organizers require immediate contact from anyone able to provide the requested resources this weekend. Logistical support will be provided, including transportation, accommodation assistance if needed, volunteer boat operators, and drone teams.

Individuals able to assist with a certified water HRD K9 team or an experienced jet boat should private message the search organizers immediately.
