PRINCE RUPERT, B.C. – A celebratory night at the Prince Rupert Summer Carnival turned into a tragedy after a fatal incident resulted in the death of a carnival worker. Shooting Star Amusements, the company operating the event, confirmed that an incident occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday evening involving their Zipper ride. Prince Rupert RCMP and Emergency Health Services (EHS) responded to a report of an unconscious man found near one of the rides. Despite efforts to save him, the man was pronounced deceased. TERRACE, B.C. – Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for parts of Northwest B.C., advising residents in the Terrace and Kitimat areas to take precautions as a heatwave brings unseasonably high temperatures to the region this week. The official warning is in effect for the North Coast’s inland regions, with temperatures forecast to reach up to 31 degrees Celsius by mid-week. TERRACE, B.C. – The British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) has officially accepted 10 energy purchase agreements from BC Hydro’s 2024 Call for Power, a decision that will bring a new wave of clean energy development and historic levels of First Nations ownership to the province. TERRACE, B.C. – A collaborative effort between police detachments has led to the successful return of a stolen, carved paddle to a Kitsumkalum family, bringing home a cherished piece of a late artist’s legacy. The remarkable story began when a Vancouver Police Department detective, while investigating a string of property crimes, discovered a carved paddle at a house in Richmond. TERRACE, B.C. – Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 183 calls for service between August 9 and August 15, with a notable incident involving a man from New Mexico who was reportedly soliciting women for money in exchange for sex. According to a police press release, several women complained to RCMP about the man’s behavior on August 12. Officers were able to track the out-of-town visitor to a trailer park. TERRACE, B.C. – A specialized underwater search and rescue team from Manitoba is making the journey to Terrace to assist in the recovery mission for Thomas Kelly, who has been missing since he fell into the Skeena River on July 12. The Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team (HEART), a non-profit search and rescue group based in Morris, Manitoba, announced they are traveling to Terrace after repeated calls from Kelly’s family and supporters for additional resources.
